Play It Again Sam

Life on Mars i

Where There’s Life

I am so glad that John Simm has found himself a role in the new Doctor Who (playing the mysterious Mr Saxon) because, while he has been fantastic in Life on Mars, it is easy to now forget some of his earlier memorable roles in The Lakes, State of Play and suchlike, so to take on what I assume will be such a different role should be great to see. The impending end of this groundbreaking series and the forthcoming role in one of the most popular shows on TV promises to be great for his career. As LoM draws towards its natural conclusion in a few week’s time, the second series continues to entertain.  The much publicised Trumpton segment that formed part of the media buzz building up to this series was included in the most recent episode and was just as great.  I suppose that if you were to join this series half way through, the whole realisation of the “back in time” nature of Sam’s life (like his relationship with his TV and the strange phone calls he gets) could be a bit mystifying but for the rest of us it is all part of the intrigue.  Preview tapes of the final episode, where I hope that most of the threads gets tied up, by all accounts have now been distributed to the TV critics.  It is going to be suitably great.
