T.V. Week In Review, Week 13
You Keep Me Hangin On The Telephone
The end of the first three months of 2007’s televisual viewing options saw (in case you hadn’t noticed round here!) the return of the nation’s favourite Time Lord. In anticipation of this event, in a now annual two weeks of channel hopping I try to watch and record appearances, interviews and trailers for my Doctor Who extras DVD. As I result I find myself in the unusual situation of watching a whole host of TV programmes I wouldn’t normally dream of tuning in for. Take Richard and Judy(”Please, someone… take Richard and Judy!”) they have a presenting style that I can only describe as blundering with the former’s ego attempting world domination while the latter looks like her nerves are shattered and glances apologetically to camera. However, it wasn’t the worst example I saw because Entertainment Today took that crown on the post-GMTV slot on Friday morning. I can barely bring myself to talk about the awfulness. Elsewhere, Blue Peter was surprisingly entertaining in all those ways I remember from childhood (and I could listen to Zoe Salmon all day). Amongst the more regular viewing, 24 picked up the pace a little as the US Administration took the decision to blow the bejeezus out of a conspicuously un-named, terrorist-sponsoring, Middle Eastern state and we had a cracking episode of Lost, that focussed on two of the minor characters, Nikki and Paulo. And so, inevitably to the Show of the Week, regular readers may be expecting a landslide victory for you-know-who but I think I’ll save that honour for a forthcoming week when some of the stronger episodes may air. Instead the award is bestowed upon Prison Break. We watched a triple header from the Sky Planner and they are still as fascinating, intriguing and implausably entertaining as ever.
