Life on Mars l

Ashes to Ashes?

Here we are again, another week of viewing draws to a close and there were loads of goodies on offer. The highlight of them all must have been the conclusion to Life on Mars that I wrote about earlier in the week. As a previous winner of the prestigious Show-Of-The-Week award, it is, of course, exempt from winning again but I am sorely tempted to re-write the rules to allow LoM an unprecidented second win. Elsewhere we saw the return of Paul Whitehouse and Harry Enfield in a sketch show and it turned out, as is usual, to be a little hit ‘n’ miss. We’ve seen the format a million times before, Ruddy hell! It’s Harry and Paul is catchphrase-driven characitures that will be shown time and again until their wretched phrases enter the public (sub) conciousness and irritate the hell out of me. Am I bovvered? You betcha! Elsewhere, at least the much-vaunted Rush Hour is trying something a little different with all the sketches having a related theme and giving the gags a little narrative. Quite what it has done to deserve so many trailers all over the Beeb is beyond me though. Finally, we’re catching up with Battlestar Galactica, which has been a blessing and the three eps we watched this week have brought The Other Viewer and I closer to being up-to-speed: a review will follow. We finally made it to Claire’s homecoming celebration in Heroes as Sylar struck again. It continues to impress with the amount of thought and complexity that has clearly gone into the stories. More goodness from Doctor Who, a sporting weekend and another twist in Lost rounded off a good weekend but 24 seems to be going the motions more than ever before. Oh, the show of the week, it’s got to be Life on Mars (again).
