Life On Marr
Anyone watching TV this week would know that the biggest talking point was Emily being thrown out of the BB House for using a racially offensive word. Channel 4, after showing the incident in full received over a thousand complaints, almost all of which were from people complaining about the eviction rather than the use of the word. Love it or hate it but there is undeniable benefit in putting debates such as this in the public spotlight and even if only a few people take a look at themselves and decide to amend their ways in the light of seeing this furore, then some good has come out of it. Given the reaction of the housemates, Channel 4’s response to the incident was fully vindicated but you can’t help feel some sympathy towards Emily who seemed like a thoroughly pleasant, if somewhat naive, young person. Elsewhere, I finally got to see the rather shocking ending of Desperate Housewives. It had been a fairly mediocre effort at transiitioning between series three and series four by concluding a number of plotlines and creating some good new ones but the final scene during the voice-over was a complete shock. Doctor Who’s fine run of form continued with this series Doctor-lite episode and Stephen Moffatt gave us a great tale (more on that soon). However, the Show of the Week must go to Andrew Marr and his History of Britain that continues to entertain, educate and fascinate in equal measure.
