Musings on the Week Just Gone
General Grievous?
- The England cricket team: Why do they bother? Grievous Bodily Harmison needs a new nickname… something related to puppy dogs I should think. Just when it looked like Sidebottom could salvage something from the wreckage of the first test of the New Zealand tour at Hamilton, we conspire to collpase spectacularly (again). I’m just happy, like the England team apparently, to have been asleep through most of it.
- I tried watching the first episode of The Last Enemy. Despite coming up with genius idea of hiring Max Beesley only to kill him off in the first scene (hopefully the makers of Hotel Babylon drew some inspiration), I found it hard going. A little too knowing and self-assured for an edgy drama and really, really drawn out. It may well be something I feel like revisiting when they release the inevitable DVD ‘cos there were good ideas throughout. The other reason for giving up for now is…
- Lost. Just how good is series four? Last week’s episode “The Constant” was one of those 45 minutes of television that made some of the duller moments of series three worth sitting through. Answers, as Ben promised us during the preview clips, were indeed coming. And I could happily watch a show just with Desmond as the lead character every week. Tonight’s story is called “The Other Woman” and I cannot wait. For anyone wondering why I don’t watch Lost and record The Last Enemy, the answer is simple…
- Lewis. Not a big fan really but The Other Viewer loves it. How many Oxford dons are there left to kill anyway? Or have they all moved to the tranquil safety of Midsummer?
- Finally, another word about Torchwood. The season continues to yo-yo. The conclusion of the “Owen’s Death” trilogy being a notable high, Gwen’s wedding not so. Just hope the final few episodes end on a high and that Series Three gets a green light.
So, what have you been watching?
[edit to add...]
Just watched episode one of Flash Gordon on the SciFi Channel and three points worthy of note…
- All the three lead female actors look identical to one another.
- It really wasn’t much good although folks tell me to stick with it.
- Ming the Merciless looks like Bjorn Borg
