Hells Kitchen a

The Object of Angus Deayton’s Affection

Week thirty-six was decidedly forgetable. A few new series for the autumn season managed to sneak their debuts in with the chucklefest that is Not Going Out back for a second outing. I found that it was not quite up to the standard of last series and felt a bit like a reset because of the introduction of a replacement for Kate and the arrival of Miranda Hart as the maid. I’m certainly expecting it to get better as the show progresses. Friday nights are further bolstered by Jonathan

House At Home

Another week over and a pretty quiet week it was too. Managed to finally get to the end of the third series of House, which ended with a cracking few episodes: Hugh Laurie on top form as his team dissappear from around him. Mainly the week was notable for the three ODI international, previously mentioned, that I watched (well, two matches and highlights show). Most disappointing was the dramatic downturn in the quality of the IT Crowd, the first episode of the second series

Here’s To The Winners
Week 33 and we’re almost back in the land of normality after our break but it’s now time to fill in those much-missed Show of the Week awards.  The last gong was figuratively handed out in Week 28 when Cape Wrath won but I still have all the 6 remaining episodes of that one left to watch… can anyone tell me if it will be worth it?  So, moving on, in Week 29 I think that the nod will have to go to a timeshifted, one-off drama that had been begging to be watched for weeks before

Cape Wrath b

Cape of Some Hope

I was struggling to arrive at a Show Of The Week (TM) for a while back there. Throughout week 28 I had been idly channel hopping and keeping up with the backlog on the Sky planner (Andrew Marr’s history of the Thatcher years was a bit of an eye opener… I really should have kept a closer eye on current affairs back then) but all the surfing was without any great sense of direction. The downside was that I was once more drawn into Big Brother where “fake week” was in full swing

Diana Concert

How, Or How Not, To Host a Party

Well, this is a novelty… a weekend without a charity concert cluttering up the schedules.  I have to confess that I tuned in to fair amounts of both gigs while pottering round the house on the previous two weekends and I definitely felt a little underwhelmed by both of them.  First up, I was very unclear about the reasons why the first one for Diana was held.  The commentators kept reminding me throughout the day that it would have been the Princess’s 46th birthday but what’s so

Longford

Should Have Watched This Ages Ago

Well, I’ve been a little slack at updating this site of late… I think it’s down to a combination of work (which is unusually busy) and the longer days of our glorious (ahem!) British summer that has resulted in less PC-time at home.  So much so that I haven’t even reviewed the final episode of Doctor Who yet, shame on me (or may be that’s shame on them for introducing Dobby The House Elf into Who folklore).  Also, sitting in my ever-growing inbox of “Reviews Pending” I have
