Barry Letts

RIP Barry Letts

News from the world of Doctor Who this evening that Barry Letts has passed away. Such a shame, he always struck me as being a real gent on the DVD commentaries and interviews that I have seen. He was one of the greats who directed, produced and wrote scripts and novels for Doctor Who, most notably for Jon Pertwee’s Doctor in the 1970’s but maintaining links to fandom ever since. Sympathies to his family and friends.

Michael Jackson RIP

He was never going to be a person who died quietly in his old age. His eccentric, contraversial life was never out of the headlines and very often for all the wrong reasons. It has now been confirmed, after a couple of hours of internet fuelled speculation, that Michael Jackson has died. I can’t say I was a huge fan of his music despite there being some fantastic tunes sprinkled through his back catalogue, but I’m certainly feeling a little shocked at the news. I get the feeling that this “story” is going to go the way of Diana’s death, where all semblance of proportion will disappear. Expect much wailing, fields of flowers, a slew of sick jokes on the internet, and more column inches, online and on paper, than you ever thought possible. Rest in Peace, Wacko.

And Innocent Then

How It All Began
It Just Seemed Like Heaven
So Why Did It End?

The Bearded Wonders pay tribute [image: by "Deaco" from Flickr]

Another week, another obituary. It’s not often a statistician becomes something of a national treasure but here we have one. The dry, laconic Bill Frindall, a permanent fixture in the commentary box of Test Match Special for all of my life at least, has passed away. He will be much missed.

More sad news that another of the voices of my childhood, Tony Hart, has passed away. I feel perhaps, that I should have drawn something rather than use a photograph above.

Very sad news from the BBC website. We should all go and watch The Prisoner immediately
