Countdown to Christmas

Well the interminable auditions finally concluded and over the course of two weekends we got through Boot Camp and the Judge’s Houses to arrive at last weekend’s first live show, well, shows in fact because while Strictly reverted to a one-night format this year, X-Factor has expanded to two. Aside from the inevitable feeling of guilt that racks through the body upon watching and becoming engaged with Uber Stalle Fuhrer Cowell’s ITV behemoth, it was actually a really good show, albeit a simple 21st century version of Opportunity Knocks. There were also no shortage of talking points. We had the woeful John and Edward murdering the kareoke classic, Rock DJ; we had

The Fun and Games Are Over

It may not be devastating news to many. Indeed, it may be seen as a blessed relief to some, but news has been confirmed that Channel 4’s next series of Big Brother, the eleventh, will be its last as the broadcaster, amid falling viewer figures, seems to have had enough of its once great, summer blockbuster. That’s not to say that another station won’t step in and buy the format from Endemol but it’s certainly the end of an era. I have to confess

Guess who’s back to ruin/make* your summer? (*delete as applicable)

Well, the sun came along, gave us all a few days of warmth and sunshine and then disappeared to shatter those early promises of a long hot summer. Not to worry though because, if there’s one thing Brits like to talk about as much as the weather, it’s Big Brother.  Or Big Bloody Brother if you prefer. It’s always had a reputation as one of those love it or hate it “marmite” shows but this time around I get the sense that it’s missed its traditional polarising position in the schedules to become a little, so what?!

When I’m Cleaning Windows

Wasn’t The Apprentice a scream last night?  Quite literally in the case of the girls’ team.  I have an office-based, business-y type job with a background in more hands on work, and I always think that I could do a million times better than the mpuppets that roll up at the start of each new series of siralan’s behemoth.  However, after watching last night’s first episode of the fifth series, I’m thinking that I’d rather be anywhere else on earth than stuck with that bunch of  plebeians. It’s compelling to watch though.

Okay, it’s about time I posted about the X-Factor. I’ve been watching for most of the series and my love/hate feelings about it continue. Part of me dies inside every time the Cowell bandwagon reels out another sob story of domestic hardship just prove that “This means the world to me and all I want to do with my life is sing” and “I know that my dead dad/mum/wife/hamster (*) would want me to do this”. After a short break for the summer, I am returning to the blogging world.  With a bit of luck there’ll be some decent programmes on TV worth writing about. There’ll be a DVD review of Dexter series one, and TV reviews of House of Saddam and the start of Spooks: Code 9 to come.  For now though, there are only two things on telly, the Olympics and Big Brother.  I’ll leave the Olympic coverage until after the medals have been counted
