Cricket b

Broad Shoulders

Way back in the dark ages, over two years ago if you’re counting, the very first post on Fazzinchi.co.uk was not about Doctor Who, sci-fi, or the latest American import show. It was, in fact, about cricket. My sports-related blogging has been somewhat lacking of late but what better time to resurrect the past-time? The big sporting question of the weekend is choosing what to watch at 5pm on Saturday afternoon. On ITV, the English rugby team are begining the defence of their (more…)

Hustle 4 b

Where Do We Go From Here?

Hustle is back on our screens, although it’s not as if the omni-present Marc Warren has actually been off screen for very long at all, given his roles in Dracula, Doctor Who, Hogfather et al. Not all of the old gang are back though because this time Mickey Stone (Adrian Lester) has been written out and is alledgedly on the far side of the world trying to sell the Sydney Opera House. Leaderless, the team rather oddly turn to Danny to take the reins, which is a decision that, in the (more…)

DW3 Evolution b

Head to Head to Head

The first two-parter of Series Three concluded with a tale of genetic engineering gone awry in “Evolution of the Daleks”.   A degree of messing about with the schedules and a lack of on-screen trailers led to some lower than average viewing figures for this two-parter.  “Average” in Doctor Who terms, of course, it still secured well over 6 million bums on seats. The now infamous Radio Times “spoiler cover” meant that the reveal of the Dalek Sec/human hybrid was dampened somewhat when (more…)

The Apprentice b

Look Busy, Here Comes The Boss

I imagine that the Apprentice is a show that made it to the airwaves 20 years too late, as it would have been a wonder to behold in those later years of Thatcher’s premiership.  A bunch of yuppies being put through their paces in such a way and delivering such abject demonstrations of business acumen that would have shaken the nation’s seemingly, unquestioning belief in capitalism to its very core.  However, here we are in the last vestiges of Blair’s Britain and a more cynical audience are (more…)

Staying In Is The New Going Out

It’s been a quiet few days here at Fazzinchi Towers, so apologies for the lack of updates.  I have about five posts that I’ve started but have yet to finish, plus the tenth and final installment of the Series One Retrospective for “Bad Wolf/Parting Of The Ways” and, inevitably, the review of “Daleks In Manhatten” that will be shown tonight.  Plenty in the pipeline then.  Meanwhile, The Other Viewer and I had one of those lazy Friday nights on the sofa yesterday and there was a fair amount (more…)

DW3 Gridlock d

Are We There Yet?

Thousands sat through the Man United v Watford FA Cup semi final waiting to see whether Watford could pull off a shock victory.  Not through any great sporting interest, or even for a love of football but because the BBC had announced that, if the match was to go to extra-time then the third episode of Doctor Who, “Gridlock” would be delayed by a week.  What outrage there would have been.  The season was already a week later than planned after being delayed by the England v (more…)
