Back in the Fold

After a short break for the summer, I am returning to the blogging world.  With a bit of luck there’ll be some decent programmes on TV worth writing about. There’ll be a DVD review of Dexter series one, and TV reviews of House of Saddam and the start of Spooks: Code 9 to come.  For now though, there are only two things on telly, the Olympics and Big Brother.  I’ll leave the Olympic coverage until after the medals have been counted (more…)

Who Would Live In a House Like This?

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

It never fails to amaze me how people get affronted by the thought of watching Big Brother, let alone enjoying it.  I have had numerous conversations over the course of the last few weeks, since BB9’s arrival on the airwaves, with friends, family and collegues during which the discussions have often turned to television.  Whenever I ask if they’re watching Big Brother I get looks of bewilderment and contempt like my (more…)

BB9 a

The Likable Luke in the new Diary Room

So here we go again.  I never bothered with BB8 after the launch show, so tuning in to BB9 was basically going to be a one night event for me and The Other Viewer.  However, they hooked us in with secret mission and a quirky gang of 16 housemates… only a few of which I’d have to stop myself from slapping upon first meeting.  So, I’m sticking with it… for now.  I know, I shouldn’t and may be, the novelty will wear off soon. Class a

Christmas Review #5 of 12

“From the makers of Friends” is the kind of tagline for a new sitcom that is all but guaranteed to add a pretty big slice to the viewing figures. Fortunately, for fans of Friends, this new ensemble comedy, The Class, ticks all the right boxes and gives us a welcome break from the constant loop of Friends repeats that appears to be cycling through ad infinitum on E4 a thousand times a day. The comedy here is driven by a the fact that the main players all used to go to school together and (more…)

BB8 b (2)

Seven Days and Seven Nights

So, here we are a week into the show and I have already watched far more Big Brother than I vowed I would. The story (for want of a better word) so far is that what started out as an all-girl cast about whom my first impressions remain fairly unchanged, soon became not quite so “all-girl” as they were joined by sacrificial lamb/ stud/ lone voice of reason (delete as applicable) who has been thrust into the testosterone-free environs of the house to “mix it up” as I’m sure one of the (more…)

Commander2

Politics On The Hill

E4 is drawing to a close on its showing of ABC’s Commander-In-Chief.  On the surface, there’s not much wrong with this show: there are two major Hollywood stars in the lead roles (Geena Davis, who won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of President Allen, and Donald Sutherland who needs no introduction, so I won’t give him one) and, from a storyline perspective, my guess is that it’s quite easy to find a good plot when your subject has as broad a canvas as “US politics”.
