Just One Trip

The Doctor meets Shakespeare. When you write it down, it just seems such an obvious thing to do. So, when The Shakespeare Code was revealed as an episode of the new series expectations were high for this season’s “celebrity historical” that followed in the footsteps of The Unquiet Dead (Charles Dickens) and Tooth and Claw (Queen Victoria). D’you Wanna Come With Me?

Well, that’s what I call a build-up.  There were (as far as I counted) seven different trailers, a series guest interviews on Richard and Judy, BBC Breakfast, Entertainment Today, The Charlotte Church Show, Graham Norton, Wales Today, This Morning, Newsround and Blue Peter, even more spots on almost every BBC radio station, column inches in the printed media wherever you cared to look and a glittering press launch that wouldn’t have been out of place for a Hollywood (more…)

Two Worlds Will Collide
Not often that I review a BBC trailer, but not often than Doctor Who returns to our screens.  Series three is just 18 days away and the first sniff of the marketing campaign has begun.  A pair of teasers, which bookend programme breaks on BBC, debuted on Saturday night with whispers that a bigger trailer is to come this Saturday.  The adventure starts here.  I’m expecting another smash hit series, more arguments than ever before in the Oupost Gallifrey forum, more information (more…)

Christmas Review #3 of 12

Standing on a beach in Wales, apparently disguised to look like a beach in Noway, we last saw Rose bidding a tearful farewell to the Doctor in one of the TV highlights of 2006.  Actress Billie Piper has since indicated, if reports are to be believed, that she sort of regrets not staying on the show and is quite jealous of Freema Agyeman who is going to try and fill her shoes in series three of Doctor Who in the spring.  (The countdown starts here!).  I am sure much of this “regret” is just professional respect for the cast and crew (more…)
