Diana Concert

How, Or How Not, To Host a Party

Well, this is a novelty… a weekend without a charity concert cluttering up the schedules.  I have to confess that I tuned in to fair amounts of both gigs while pottering round the house on the previous two weekends and I definitely felt a little underwhelmed by both of them.  First up, I was very unclear about the reasons why the first one for Diana was held.  The commentators kept reminding me throughout the day that it would have been the Princess’s 46th birthday but what’s so (more…)

Should Have Watched This Ages Ago

Well, I’ve been a little slack at updating this site of late… I think it’s down to a combination of work (which is unusually busy) and the longer days of our glorious (ahem!) British summer that has resulted in less PC-time at home.  So much so that I haven’t even reviewed the final episode of Doctor Who yet, shame on me (or may be that’s shame on them for introducing Dobby The House Elf into Who folklore).  Also, sitting in my ever-growing inbox of “Reviews Pending” I have (more…)

My Name Is Earl b

Would You Jump For Joy?

Well, despite the unseasonal weather that usually manages to keep folk indoors and works wonders for viewing figures, I have been (once again) extremely remiss when it comes to keeping up with the TV schedules.  This week there was plenty of opportunity to see highlights of the almost-annual mudfest known as Glastonbury.  The Arctic Monkeys headlined on Friday night and were quite marvellous (especially their Diamonds Are Forever cover) and the Fratellis were pretty good (more…)

Someone To Watch Over Me

Well, we finally got round to watching the conclusion of Day Six of 24 and we were willing Jack to throw himself off the cliff at the end and put us out of our misery. It’s odd that showing a repeat of Day Five would have been a much cheaper way of making a TV show than creating twenty four new episodes that retread almost the same areas over and over again. However, there’s a movie and two more series to come so I hope that the creators sit down in a quiet room and think really (more…)

Andrew Marr a

Life On Marr

Anyone watching TV this week would know that the biggest talking point was Emily being thrown out of the BB House for using a racially offensive word. Channel 4, after showing the incident in full received over a thousand complaints, almost all of which were from people complaining about the eviction rather than the use of the word. Love it or hate it but there is undeniable benefit in putting debates such as this in the public spotlight and even if only a few people take a look at (more…)

DW3 Human Nature a

Don’t Mess With The Family

Too much work, too little TV and have meant that regular viewing has been disrupted during Week 22. So much so, that the Sky+ planner has moved from 70% free to something closer to 20%. Despite that, there was still time for a couple of highlights though. Firstly, the conclusion to the Human Nature/ Family of Blood two-part Doctor Who story… probably the best Doctor Who story in the world; and secondly, the return of Big Brother for an eighth and, initially, all-female (more…)
