Euro 2008 a

Gary and Alan Preside.

The early evening TV schedules are packed to bursting with football at the moment.  Not surprising given that the biennial soccer festival that is either the World Cup or, in this case, the Euro Championships are here.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that none of the home nations have qualified and, unlike the last time such a thing occurred, we can’t even pretend to Irish to give us a team to follow.  So, we (more…)

Primeval b

Anyone for a Catfight?

So, what is that intangible “something” about Primeval that leads me to both love it and hate it at the same time? Series Two came to an end at the weekend with the 13th installment of dino-fun and I have to acknowledge that the second set of seven episodes were a distinct step up from the first six. For every positive that I find there is a niggly little piece of the puzzle that doesn’t quite fit….

  • It is refreshing to see escapist drama on primetime Saturdays, following in the footsteps of Doctor Who’s recent (more…)

JK a

Christmas Review #6 of 12

I love J.K Rowling. She is an exceptionally gifted person with passion, wit and humility and I don’t begrudge her a single penny of her alleged fortune. I’ve never met her or corresponded with her or have any kind of relationship with her, other than that I’ve bought seven of her books, seen the occasional clip of footage on the news or magazine programmes and watched the “Year In The Life” documentary that was on over Christmas. As this blog tends to be focussed on things (more…)

Cricket b

Broad Shoulders

Way back in the dark ages, over two years ago if you’re counting, the very first post on Fazzinchi.co.uk was not about Doctor Who, sci-fi, or the latest American import show. It was, in fact, about cricket. My sports-related blogging has been somewhat lacking of late but what better time to resurrect the past-time? The big sporting question of the weekend is choosing what to watch at 5pm on Saturday afternoon. On ITV, the English rugby team are begining the defence of their (more…)

Talk To Me b

No-one Said It Would Be Easy … (Retrospective Catch Up #1)

The Other Viewer and I have recently finished watching Talk To Me, the recent Sunday night drama offering from ITV. Told over four weeks, it was a tale of complex and interweaving love stories that were anything other than straighforward.  I always have a bit of a problem with Max Beesley because every time I’ve seen him (in recent outings here, in Hotel Babylon and in the much-acclaimed Bodies) he always seems to be playing exactly the same character, a velvet-voiced Mancunian with some inner turmoil that never, ever (more…)

A Bit of Fry and a Bit of Laurie

Kingdom b House3 a
Kingdom/House

Well, who could’ve predicted the winding career paths of Messrs Fry and Laurie after they first came to our attention in the early days of Saturday Live, Blackadder and A Bit Of Fry and Laurie? A lot of water has passed under many a bridge since then but we now find each of them in weekly doses in two astonishingly different drama series.  In fact, “drama” is quite a strong word to describe Kingdom.  A classic, British, Sunday night viewing experience in the style of Heartbeat, i.e. it (more…)
