Feels Like 2005 Down Here

Well, if the 3-D trailer left you feeling a little intrigued but rather… meh! about the whole Series 1/5/31 return, then the latest trailers from the BBC and the Press Launch have really whetted the appetite of this blogger. Starting to hear the dialogue and see some of the sfx that will look amazing in HD and more importantly than all that, finally getting to see what a Moffat-helmed thirteen weeks of Doctor Who will be like… well, it’s like 2005 all over again. If Doctor Who is “about” anything at all, it’s about change. And this is promising to be a change on a really rather big scale. After further neglect of this old blog (as my other personal blog has dominated my writing juices of late), a new series of Doctor Who is enough to redress the balance and, if that wasn’t enough, there’ll be a sprinkling of Ashes to Ashes and the final 9 episodes of Lost to keep us busy too. Hope you’ll stick around with me.

Danny Boy from Lost

Oh Danny Boy, why is the island mo-oving?

“Where have you been?”, almost none of you have asked.  Well, it’s been a hectic old month at the office and, to be honest, the last thing I’ve found myself wanting to do after a day of writing reports and staring at a computer screen, is to stare at a computer screen and write reports about TV shows.  In fact… (1) Watch some telly, (2) listen to music and (3) play games, is about all my addled mind can cope with of late. Anyhoo, here are the latest thoughts (as well as the normal hollow promises about posting more often)…

  1. Enjoyed tweeting through the Cup Final yesterday despite the final outcome.  If you’re not a Twitter

Keep Calm and Carry On

Here we are, two-and-a-half weeks into 2009 and it’s been a quiet one on the TV viewing front. There have been quite a few nights of late when the telly has remained stubbornly switched off. A quick glance at my Sky Planner shows a meagre capacity of “29% free” so I will have to start watching soon.  BSG returns on Tuesday and Lost cannot be too far away either and both of these HD shows will eat into that at a pace. I have five parts of Neil Fergusson’s The Ascent of Money and

Lost c

Mr Moriarty, I Presume

Lost returned for UK viewers last Sunday (to Sky One and HD) for the slightly delayed, post-Writer’s Strike second half of season four.  Life for Lost fans had certainly picked up after the much improved fourth series had began with a series of great episodes that were up with the best that the show had produced and that, in a very real sense, contained honest to goodness answers to some of those infamous and infuriating

General Grievous?

  • The England cricket team: Why do they bother? Grievous Bodily Harmison needs a new nickname… something related to puppy dogs I should think. Just when it looked like Sidebottom could salvage something from the wreckage of the first test of the New Zealand tour at Hamilton, we conspire to collpase spectacularly (again). I’m just happy, like the England team apparently, to have been asleep through most of it.

Lost 4 d

Four new people on the Island… Five new episodes

The strike is over and all the US networks have all announced plans for how they intend to have the curtailed series of their favourite shows produced.  ABC were one of the last to get their proclaimations ready but they delivered the goods as series four of Lost seems to be getting another five doses of island shenanigans, making a respectable 13-episode season and means that only 3 have been, erm, lost.  Over at The Watcher (a great blog I only recently discovered) you can track
