Wierdy, Beardy Goings On

“Through The Looking Glass” brought to an end the third series of Lost and we know that there are just three years left to run… half way through. In fact, that’s a bit of a fib because each of the next three series will consist of only 16 episodes each, so in effect we’re 69 episodes down with 48 to go and well over half way to finding out all the secrets of the Island and its inhabitants. Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Lost returned to our screens last weekend as the replacement for the second half of the 24 double-headers that have been enthralling us on SkyOne, which has now resulted in unmissable TV on Sunday nights for the next 18 weeks or so.  Conflicts with Lewis on ITV and Waking The Dead on BBC1 are starting to make me feel that the next Sky box that is released really needs 3 or 4 tuners inside it rather than just two.  On screen, we were back on the little island, nicknamed (more…)

Oh My God, They Killed Eko!

Another week, another bombshell. Episode 5 of season 3 of Lost was shown here in the UK on SkyOne on Sunday night and “The Cost Of Living” provided more intrigue from the island. With Jack, Sawyer and Kate incarcerated on the other island (?) the dynamic back at base camp had changed dramatically with Locke taking a lead role and being much more inclusive when it comes to involving everyone, so much so that two additional survivors have been given speaking roles (more…)

Lost Is Found On Sky

Debuting on Murdoch’s $ky network, season three of Lost has begun on SkyOne with a Sunday night double-header of “A Tale Of Two Cities” and “The Glass Ballerina“. Picking up exactly where we left off, this is a mini-run of 6 episodes that will air before a winter break (and clashing with Torchwood… grrrr!). I don’t think I can remember having ever been as shocked by a TV show as I was earlier tonight.  The Other Viewer and I recorded the latest episode of Lost, “Two For The Road” from E4 on Tuesday night and we finally settled down with a glass of wine to watch it this evening.   It all started typically enough (if anything is ever “typical” on this show), with a flashback to Ana-Lucia and the consequences of her murder of Jason, the guy who had earlier shot her.  On the island, life was getting more complicated… Michael’s return, Ana-Lucia and Sawyer’s liaison, Henry’s hunger strike, and Hurley and Libby’s blossoming romance.   However, the episode’s final two minutes will live with me for a long time, right up there with the appearance of Locutus of Borg and Sheridan’s jump into Z’Ha’Dum.  My heart (genuinely and with no word of a lie) seemed to skip a beat, not once, not twice, but three times as I sat agape at the denoument.  A fantastic show just got better and the final three episodes of series two have a lot to live up to.

Where do we go from here

With 8 episodes left in season two, the creators of Lost are inevitably moving all their castaway playing pieces into position for the season finale. Episode 16, The Whole Truth, saw Ana-Lucia let into the secret about the prisoner in the hacth after Locke thought it was time to bring in help. The complexities of the inter-relationships that have been developed over the year-and-a-half we’ve been watching are begining to reap dividends. Sawyer at the top of the food chain; Jack and Locke’s divergent opinions, Sun and Jin’s marriage; Charlie’s personal issues, and all the rest make for great set pieces as various characters are thrown together by circumstance or design and their individual motivations create as much of the drama now as the island itself. Character driven stuff of this quality should be cherished by us all, I just hope JJ Abrams and the rest are going to reward us with the storyline as well… all the promise remains.
