So Say We All

Here’s another show that I should have been blogging about a bit more often. Caprica is the much talked about prequel to Battlestar Galctica and it is quite brilliant. If you like your sci-fi as cold, hard-edged, futuristic “noir” then this is indeed the show for you. Looking glorious in high-definition on Sky, it tells the tale of the birth of the Cylons through the eyes of two significant but troubled familes. Mixing contemporary themes of terrorism, virtual reality, religeous extremism, and corporate corruption, the show weaves a tale of wonderful complexity and intrigue with good thriller writing. The fact we know the outcome of events (on the wider scale at any rate) actually works as a benefit to the viewer despite the logical conclusion being that knowing the outcome is in someway detrimental. I heartily recommend that you catch up with this if at all possible.

I am not an X-File.

Fringe is back on SkyHD for a second outing and it’s a welcome return. Having concluded season one with a meeting between the mysterious William Bell (Leonard Nimoy) and Agent Dunham in the World Trade Center of an alternative universe (that really is a freaky sounding sentence for those who haven’t watched),  I was all set for some answers as I sat down to enjoy episode one of season two but, to be honest, I should’ve known better. The episode started with a car crash that saw Olivia

Keep Calm and Carry On

Here we are, two-and-a-half weeks into 2009 and it’s been a quiet one on the TV viewing front. There have been quite a few nights of late when the telly has remained stubbornly switched off. A quick glance at my Sky Planner shows a meagre capacity of “29% free” so I will have to start watching soon.  BSG returns on Tuesday and Lost cannot be too far away either and both of these HD shows will eat into that at a pace. I have five parts of Neil Fergusson’s The Ascent of Money and

It’s gonna be an amazing day at the Ryder cup… it’s one of those must see sporting events that translate so well onto television.  Sky’s coverage has been pretty good (as usual) and the commentary team seem to be so involved that it’s infectious. The US are currently 9-7 up over Europe and here’s the line-up for today’s singles matches (tee off times in BST) and, for what it’s worth, a prediction from me…….

4×10: “Midnight”

Ladies and gentlemen and variations thereupon, that was a bit good wasn’t it?  Just at the time when the soon to be gone Russell T Davies gets an OBE for his efforts and the vocal minority are bemoaning the fact that their anti-hero is penning all four of the remaining episodes in Series 4, the great man serves up a real treat with Midnight, a claustrophobic slice of hardcore sci-fi that, even the folk who love him didn’t think

Andromeda b

The Wildfire Team Talk The Talk

A week or so ago, the Other Viewer noticed that a two-part version of The Andromeda Strain had downloaded itself onto our Sky Anytime service. For those that don’t know, when you get a Sky HD box fitted, it comes with 2x 360Gb hard drives, one for you to record away to your heart’s content, the other to be used by some halfwits from SkyHQ who send you High Def television for viewing pleasure. Unlike Tivo, it makes no effort
