Here’s Looking At You

Well, Pick of the Day, according to the RT at least, for the “so-close-you-can-smell-Christmas” 23rd of December is the somewhat unfestive Spooks series 8 finale. I am still a few episodes behind in this run but I will be doing what I can in the work-free days that approach to rectify that. So far, the budget cuts have not really dampened by enjoyment of the show although the Section D offices do look rather pokier than usual. Over on C4 at 10pm, there is the finale (in case you missed it first time round on digital or even on DVD) of True Blood. Again, it’s another show that I can’t quite get in to but probably need to sit down

Time to Say Goodbye

While the writers have been on strike over in the USA and the people who make 24, Prison Break and shows of a similar ilk have had their iMacs switched off, I wonder whether any of them will have taken the opportunity to look at the UK’s attempt at a 24-esque, season long, story arc. Whodunnit?

Someone came up with a great idea for a drama, called it “Five Days“, structured around five days in a missing persons/murder enquiry, and produced it so that it would form a five-day, television event. Who, then, thought it sensible to broadcast it on Tuesaday, Wednesday, Thursday, Tuesday, and Thursday rather than a simple, elegant Monday to Friday?  In these days of DVD boxsets it’s becoming the norm for viewers to watch multiple episodes one after another,

Spooks finale 3

Hermione… no, the other one… Looking Cool

The series finale of ever-wonderful Spooks, was a surprise package. First, we didn’t get an Al-Quaida inspired plot but instead an environmental one with a mysterious “Aftermath” document that sounded so frightening in its concept that I just pray it’s a piece of extreme writing in the heightened reality of this fictional world, rather than something based on reality. Second, despite ample opportunity, none of the key characters were killed off. I am especially pleased that

Oh My God, They Killed Colin

The Spooks are back, and they’re continuing in their quest to defend Britain by whatever means necessary from the evils of terrorism and other miscellaneous nastiness. The cliffhanger from last season was quickly wrapped up in the opening episode this time round but the pace has been unrelenting. The ever-changing, and often dying, personnel have been reshuffled once again as the angry Ros has surprisingly joined the MI5 team to (sort of) replace Adam’s deceased wife, and
