Waking

Boyd and The Team

It is a blogging tradition that when anyone writes about Waking The Dead, one should also include comments about Boyd’s shouting. I have put my reference in the title just to get it out of the way and shall endeavour to not mention it again. Trevor Eve who, even to a person of my years, is now more commonly known for his Detective Superintendant Boyd than he is for his immortal Eddie Shoestring, is quite (more…)

Holding Out For a Hero

A trip to the cinema (”Hot Fuzz”) for the first time in about the space of a year for the Other Viewer and I this week, along with sitting down to watch a sci-fi movie classic (”Fifth Element) made me once again consider expanding the remit of Fazzinchi.co.uk to include an occasional series of reviews of non-TV related entertainment such as movies, books, and very occasional theatre trips.  Still debating the concept at the moment though.  Back on the box, it was another entertaining (more…)

Michelle Forbes In Happy Ending

Series six of Waking The Dead concluded with a powerful story linking back to 1945 and the end of World War II.  Fleeing Germany after it was clear that the war was lost, a family of Germans (the parents of which had worked with Josef Mengele), crash landed their plane in Britain whilst en route to Ireland, killed a Polish immigrant family, adopted their identities and lived a lie for 60 years.  It was a complex and harrowing tale.  The flashback’s to the concentration camps of (more…)

Where For Art Thou?

I vowed (to myself) that there would never be a tie for Fazzinchi’s prestigeous Show-Of-The-Week award.  A vow that I am so tempted to break right about now.  Vying for top spot is clearly Life on Mars, which returned to our screens after what has seemed like an eternity and it has thankfully lost none of its charm.  Lots of other good stuff has abounded for those of us who like our drama without the soap suds, so much so that the new series of Lewis had to go unrecorded and (more…)

Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Lost returned to our screens last weekend as the replacement for the second half of the 24 double-headers that have been enthralling us on SkyOne, which has now resulted in unmissable TV on Sunday nights for the next 18 weeks or so.  Conflicts with Lewis on ITV and Waking The Dead on BBC1 are starting to make me feel that the next Sky box that is released really needs 3 or 4 tuners inside it rather than just two.  On screen, we were back on the little island, nicknamed (more…)

Another Girl, Another Body

If there is one thing about the flashback sequences in Waking The Dead, it’s that they’re pretty weird at the best of times with their jarring, out-of-focus camera movements and intense music.  When you add to the mix the taking of hallucinogenic drugs as shown in the latest two-parter, Double Bind then you know that the weirdness will be off the scale.  The story revolved around an escaped psychiatric patient with a series of murders linked to his past that was being (more…)
